Letter of Invitation

October 1, 2007

BIG BEND BALLOON BASH
600 West Avenue E
Alpine, TX 79830

Dear Balloon Pilot:

We are pleased to invite you to the 13th Annual Big Bend Balloon Bash on Labor Day Weekend (Friday, August 29, through Monday, September 1) here in Alpine, Texas. Alpine is situated in the foothills of the Davis Mountains and in the Chihuahuan Desert.

Alpine offers a unique flying opportunity in the high desert of West Texas. Historically the event has had a very high rate of flying days with very little to almost no wind, and very few number of bad weather days. The 2004 Bash saw very good flights on all three days, in 2005 there were two excellent flight days, with the third day limited to wet conditions, 2006 was the first weekend ever where only tether rides were possible, and in 2007, at our new location on Sierra La Rana, we had exquisite weather and flew all three days! So statistically 2008 should be an excellent rally!

Alpine also offers many close-by attractions to see and enjoy after the day’s flight is over.

  • Fort Davis with its historic fort, McDonald Observatory and scenic drive, is located just to the north of Alpine.
  • Marfa and the Marfa Lights Festival
  • To the south is the Big Bend National Park.
  • Alpine offers its own small town style of shopping and night life, so there is no lack of entertainment for all.

This year’s event will include:

  1. Friday night welcome reception and registration for the Pilots (crews are also invited!)
  2. Saturday BBQ and party at a local site for pilots, crews, and sponsors.
  3. Sunday night fire concert and nightglow.
  4. Balloon demonstrations at area towns on Friday morning.

This year’s event is limited to thirty (30) balloons on a first-received application basis. Each pilot will receive one (1) motel room for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights, plus propane (show up full and leave full), and show-up money (if you fly all 3 days, weather permitting).

So, for an exciting, fun-filled weekend, we would like to see you at the BIG BEND BALLOON BASH 2008.

Sincerely,

BBBB
